Together against HIV and AIDS

The long-standing cooperation between the Lions Club of Phoenix Hong Kong and the Rotary Club Phönix Pattaya resulted in a donation of 1,150,000 Baht in favor of the HIV / AIDS clinic of Dr. Philippe Seur.

On Saturday, January 14, 2017, during a party at the Holiday Inn Hotel, this amount was donated to Dr. Seur, who has been treating HIV and AIDS patients in Pattaya for over 17 years.

The amount is composed of 500,000 baht each of Lions Club Hong Kong and the Rotary Club Pattaya as well as a private donation from Alice Yip, who is also chairperson for this project at the Lions Club.

Dr. Seur mentioned in his thank-you speech that his patient card now contains 2,598 persons and he could reach the birth of uninfected babies of infected mothers in about 80 cases by drugs.
The connection to Rotarians and the Lions Club Phönix Hong Kong has gained in importance in recent years in the financing of its clink,
For the first time a joint donation was handed over in 2011.

The Rotary and Lions Phönixer have also been collaborating on other projects since 2011, such as Hand to Hand Foundation and Altersheim etc.

By the way: the name “Phoenix” of both clubs is neither the result nor the cause of the cooperation but pure coincidence.

Lions club members were Alice Yip (project chairperson), Rosita Li-Meier (Past President), Kelly Yong (Past President) and Angela Leung (President Elect).

On the part of RC Phönix Pattaya the members took part, with Hubert Meier (Immediate Past President) leading through the event. Peter Schlegel (President) praised the cooperation with the Lions Club in his speech and wished that the cooperation would be continued and further developed in the coming years.

Rotarians from other clubs were also guests: Jan Abbink (Past Assistant District Governor), Joseph Roy (Assistant District Governor), Rodney James Charman (President), RC Eastern Sea Board, Dr Olivier Meyer (Past President).
Past Pastors of the RC Phönix Pattaya were Stephan Heynert and Heiner Mössing, as well as some representatives of the media.

The event took place at the pool of the Executive Tower of the Holiday Inn Hotel, which provided an excellent buffet. To round off the nice evening there was a great sunset with a fire-red sun over the bay of Pattaya.
